In Summary

The names of this year’s Mashujaa Day honorees was proposed through a nationwide vetting process coordinated by the National Heroes Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.

As is the norm every year, a number of Kenyans will be feted today, Monday 20 October 2025 during the Mashujaa Day celebrations currently being held at the Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui.

The event, presided over by President William Ruto, recognizes more than 160 individuals whose work and sacrifices have shaped Kenya’s history, development, and identity.

The honours highlight Kenyans who have made remarkable contributions to freedom, entrepreneurship, culture, sports, human rights, environmental conservation, and peace.

The names of this year’s Mashujaa Day honorees was proposed through a nationwide vetting process coordinated by the National Heroes Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.

The Council received nominations from county governments, state agencies, civil society organisations, and members of the public. Each nominee was assessed based on their impact, integrity, and contribution to Kenya’s development, unity, or heritage.

According to Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, the exercise was guided by the National Heroes Act, 2014, which mandates the recognition of individuals and groups whose exemplary service or sacrifice has shaped Kenya’s national identity.
